Cool Plants for Cold Climates: A Garden Designer’s Perspective
Cold climate gardening brings special challenges. Discover not only
exceptional species and cultivars – time tested in Alaska in a variety of
regions – but also how to evaluate other plants that you might consider, to
insure they are truly the best of the best. Each plant in this seminar has
been selected with an emphasis on its garden impact, outstanding beauty,
ease of culture, early season and fall value, winter display, attractiveness
to pollinators, and, of course, hardiness. From annuals and bulbs to
herbaceous perennials, grasses, trees, shrubs, and vines – each is put to
the test of exceptional foliage, interesting flowers or seedpods, colorful
bark or stems, architectural form, motion, fragrance, length of bloom,
vigor, and ease of maintenance.
